Israel has shot down an unmanned aircraft that entered its airspace from the Mediterranean. The aircraft crashed in the north of the Negev desert. It is for the first time in many years that Israeli air space has been penetrated by an unmanned aerial vehicle. Military officials said the aircraft had flown in from the west, but not from the Gaza Strip. The army said it was unclear if the drone was being used for reconnaissance or for a potential attack.
