Cricketer Sachin Tendulkar today began the new innings as a member of Parliament.

Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman Mr. Hamid Ansari administered the oath to him as member of Rajya Sabha in his chamber. 39-year-old Tendulkar was nominated as a member of Upper House on April 26.

Talking to media person Sachin Tendulkar expressed happiness over his nomimation to Rajya Sabha by President Pratibha Devisingh Patil. He said it is a great hounor for him to be nominated as the Rajya Sabha member.

Tendulkar said he got this opportunity because of his cricket carreer but he wanted to help not only cricket but all other sports also. 

Tendulkar sought support from all Parliamentarians, the adminstrator, media and people of the country for his new inning.

Tendulkar said he wanted to be remembered for his contribution to not only to cricket but other sports also.

He was accompanied by his wife Anjali.

Two others - actor Rekha and industrialist Anu Aga - who were nominated to Rajya Sabha along with Tendulkar had taken oath last month when the House was in session.

Tendulkar was busy with the IPL season, which ended on May 27. He had created history by scoring 100 international centuries in March this year.

Both the Houses of Parliament were adjourned sine die today. In her
valedictory remarks in the Lok Sabha, Speaker Meira Kumar said the
House had 34 sittings during the budget session. She said 21 government bills were introduced and in all, 20 bills were passed. She said some of the important bills including the Judicial Standards and Accountability Bill 2012, the Copyright Amendment Bill, 2012 and the protection of Children from Sexual Offences Bill, 2012 were passed.
The Speaker said five important matters were raised by way of Calling
Attention. They included the situation arising out of incident of
child separation of an Indian couple by the Norway authorities. She
said the House lost over 48 hours 24 minutes of time due to
interruptions and forced its adjournments. However, the House sat late
for 41 hours to compensate the time lost.

In his valedictory remarks in the Rajya Sabha, Chairman Mohammed
Hamid Ansari said the House has worked to its optimal capacity. He,
however, regretted that some time was lost due to disruptions in the
House. Mr Ansari asked the members to introspect on the distinction
between dissent, remonstration, agitation and disruption. The Chairman
said during the session, the House bid farewell to 58 retiring
members. He said 61 members joined the House. He said in all 22 bills
were either passed or returned. He said Short Duration discussions on
three issues including the issue of reservation for Scheduled Castes
and Scheduled Tribes in Promotions during service, problem of food
grains storage and normalization of relations with Pakistan and issues
relating Human Rights Violations in Pakistan were taken up. The
Chairman said a unique feature of this session was discussion on two
statutory motions, a device which was used after a very long time.

He said 12 Short Notice questions and two half-an-hour discussions were
also taken up. This, he said is indicative of the alertness of the
members in using various parliamentary devices.
