Forensic experts say presence of fire crackers led to rapid spread of the blaze in the gutted bogie of Tamil Nadu Express, in which over 30 passengers were charred to death last month. A senior forensic scientist of the team that collected burnt articles from the bogie, said they had found fire cracker material from the bogie which indicates that burning of crackers rapidly spread the fire .The fire crackers or its powder seems to have been stored below at least six seats in the coach, he said.

The team of Andhra Pradesh Forensic Science Laboratory (APFSL) experts, who examined the gutted S-11 bogie of Tamil Nadu Express, submitted a report in this regard to the Railway authorities yesterday, the official said.

Thirty-two passengers were charred to death and 25 others injured when a fire broke out in S-11 coach of the New Delhi-Chennai Tamil Nadu Express on July 30 near Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh.

 The much-awaited AC double-decker train, between Delhi and Jaipur, chugged off from Sarai Rohilla station in Delhi, this evening. The train will cover the distance between the national capital and the pink city in four and half hours. A daily service, the train will leave Sarai Rohilla station at 5.35 pm and reach Jaipur at 10.05 pm. It will leave Jaipur station at 6 am the following day for the return journey and reach Delhi at 10.30 am.

Flagging off the train at the Sarai Rohilla station, Railway Minister Mukul Roy said, it is a noteworthy achievement and marks a new chapter in the continuous history of the Indian Raiways. Mr. Roy reiterated the committment of the Railways towards delivering greater convenience to passengers through travel at affordable rates.

Speaking on the ocassion, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said, it is a very useful service between the two cities and would also promote tourism. She said more such services should be introduced for the benefit of people.

AIR correspondent reports, the 8-coach train has a seating capacity of 120 passengers per coach. It is equipped with quickly openable 12 emergency windows for quick evacuation in case of emegencies and has fire extinguishers in each coach near its door. Each coach has a mini pantry including fridge and microwave. The train has a controlled discharge toilet system operating on attaining speed of 45 kilometeres per hour well outside stations limit.

The operation of a double decker train is not new for the Railways. In 2010, former Railway Minister, Ms. Mamta Banerjee had flagged off an airconditioned double decker service between Dhanbad and Howrah.chug  the dull explosive noise made by an engine

In a written reply in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday, Minister of State of Commerce and Industry, Jyotiraditya Scindia said that acquisition process has been initiated by all the DMIC States, except Uttar Pradesh.

He said that financial and Institutional Structure for development of the industrial cities in DMIC has been approved by the centre in September last year.

The Minister said that the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor being constructed by the Railways is targeted for commissioning in March, 2017.

Mr Scindia informed that a Concept Note has been prepared by the Ministry of Urban Development for inclusive economic development along the Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor of Railways.

The Railways has decided to extend the free rail travel facility to Arjuna awardee sportspersons in Rajdhani and Shatabdi trains.

Earlier, the complimentary card passes of Arjuna awardees was only valid for travel in the 1st and 2nd Class AC in mail and express trains. However, the facility is not available in Duronto trains and Metro Railway. 

A statement issued in New Delhi today said a circular of Railway Board had been sent to all the Zonal Railways for implementation. The said Pass entitles the Arjuna Awardee Sportspersons life-long free travel for self only.

The Indian Railway introduced from today new guidelines to overcome the menace of touts cornering the tatkal tickets meant for common passengers. According to Railways, under the new guidelines the booking of Tatkal tickets will start at 10.00 hours on the previous day of journey from train originating station instead of 0800 hours at present. The tatkal tickets will be exclusively issued in all computerised reservation counters and unreserved ticketing system counters between 10-12 Am from today onwards. Only two tickets can be booked per IP address between 10-12 AM. IP address check has helped in preventing multiple bookings from same office complex or internet café.
Tatkal tickets cannot be booked on internet reservation system during the special time of 10 to 10.30 am for next day trains.A restriction of booking of a maximum of four passengers per PNR on Tatkal ticket has been imposed. During this exclusive period, no unauthorised agent including of IRCTC and RTAs will be allowed to book tatkal tickets.

AIR correspondent reports, CCTV's have been installed at booking centres in order to monitor ant unusual activity. Also passengers looking to book tatkal tickets must carry self-attested Id proof as well as verify their mobile numbers with the concerned authority.

Landslide in Lower Haflong of Assam has led to cancellation of Train service between Agartala- Lumding and Silchar-Lumding. Incessant rainfall in the last 24 hours has led to landslide in many parts of the Lower Haflong in Assam.

All trains from Agartala and Silchar has been cancelled said a railway official. According to the Chief PRO of NF Railway the work for restoration has already started and the line is going to clear very soon.

An agreement was signed today for the manufacture of spare parts of railways at Jalingham near Nandigram in West Bengal, between Indian Railways, Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), the State Government and Burn Standard Company. 

In the 50 acre of land of Burn Standard, Rail and SAIL will jointly manufacture railway coaches and couplings. The Chairman and Managing Director of SAIL Mr. C.S. Verma said that 2 hundred and 2 crore rupees will be invested in the project. About 300 people will get employment.

The North East Frontier Railway has controlled or regulated as many as 16 trains running between lower Assam portion and the Bengal border following the Rail Roko movement. No untoward incident has been reported in view of the movement.

The Bodo student body has given the call for the Rail Roko movement demanding creation of a separate Directorate for Bodo medium schools and provincialization of all Bodo-medium schools in four districts of the Bodoland Territorial Council. 

The students are also demanding to conduct a separate Teacher Eligibility Test for the Bodo-belt.

Railways earnings have gone up by 22 percent in the first ten days of this month. It was over 3200 crore rupees against over 2600 crore rupees during the same period of last year. Goods earnings have also gone up by over 25 percent. 

It was around 2300 crore rupees in the same period of this year against 1800 crores rupees last year. Passenger revenue earnings also went up by 15 percent.

The Railways have got the much-awaited clearance from space agency ISRO for using the satellite for surfing the Internet in trains without using data card. A senior Railway Ministry official said, the Indian Space Research Organisation, ISRO has given the clearance for using the frequency from KU band for using the satellite for Internet. It will be for the first time that Internet will be operational in moving trains through satellite.

Though Railways had proposed two years back to provide Internet in trains, the project could not take off for the want of ISRO clearance. As per the proposal, three rakes of Howrah Rajdhani will be uplinked with satellite for facilitating Internet in coaches on a piloti bass. Since it is a pilot project, the Internet service will not be charged from the passengers.

Railways have sanctioned 6.30 crore rupees for providing Internet facility in Howrah Rajdhani. Now custom-made antenna will be installed on the locomotives of the train and coaches will be linked through Wi-Fi connectivity. 

To make the Internet operational, the passenger will get a password in his mobile phone after dialling a number given by the TTE.
