 to stop increasing influx of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants in Nagaland. He said that the students community will rise up and fight to protect the identity of Nagas.

Addressing a press conference at its headquarter in Kohima last evening, the NSF General secretary N. Ejanthung Ngullie appealed to both the Central and State Government to effectively implement the Inner Line Permit (ILP) and all other provisions under the law to prevent illegal immigrants from entering the state.

The Federation also demanded the Centre and the State to establish higher educational institutes and provide essential services in the state.

 Normal life was disrupted in North Eastern States of Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh due to a 12-hour bandh called by North East Students Organisation. 

The bandh was organised to protest influx of illegal Bangledeshi migrants. They were also protesting against the harassment of students from the region in other parts of the country.

Our Correspondents report that shops, business esablishments, government and private offices apart from banks and educational institutions were mostly closed.

The bandh was supported by several other organisations from the region. Police has intensified patrolling in Dimapur town as a precautionary measure following a group clash in the Thahekhu village in Nagaland.

Addressing a rally in Guwahati this evening, the leaders of Student Organisations called for immediate detection and deportation of illegal Bangladeshis from North East.

 All the 88 district headquarters in the North Eastern Region are proposed to be connected by 2-lane roads under the Special Accelerated Road Development Programme. SARDP

Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways Jitin Prasada said this in the Lok Sabha today.

In a written reply, he informed the House that so far 23 such roads have been built covering Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya and Nagaland. 

29 new roads covering Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura are to be constructed, the Minister said.

The Government has expressed it's commitment to support development of the North Eastern states and said it would help the states in raising loans from market.
Addressing a meeting of the Chief Ministers of North Eastern states in New Delhi yesterday the Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee said if any State faced a problem on account of an undersubscribed market loan, the Centre would be ready to raise the loan within the permitted borrowing ceiling, and pass it on to the concerned state .

Mr Mukherjee also promised that the Finance Ministry would soon issue notifications to provide tax relief to industry in the region.

He further said that the Centre is aware of the special issues of the region, including a low base to mobilise resources and a geographical terrain that created challenges for communication and infrastructure development.

The Finance Minister appreciated the better fiscal management by most of the North Eastern States, as a result of which most States did not have to resort to overdrafts.( An overdraft occurs when money is withdrawn from a bank account and the available balance goes below zero.  If there is a prior agreement with the account provider for an overdraft, and the amount overdrawn is within the authorized overdraft limit, then interest is normally charged at the agreed rate. If the negative balance exceeds the agreed terms, then additional fees may be charged and higher interest rates may apply.)

He also said that States Specific Grants recommended by the 13th Finance Commission would be released to ensure that the purposes of the grants were fulfilled without interruption.

The government has set a target of 20 per cent growth in exports during the current financial year while Indian exports registered 20.9 per cent growth in last year to touch 303 billion US dollar. Announcing the annual supplement to the Foreign Trade Policy 2009-14 in New Delhi today, Commerce and Industry and Textile Minister Mr. Anand Sharma unveiled seven-point strategy to boost exports which include extension of interest subsidy scheme till 31st March of next year. Our correspondent reports, the government came out with an interest subvention scheme under which 2 per cent interest subsidy was given to handlooms, handicrafts, carpets and SME sector. The seven point agenda include give a focussed thrust to employment intensive industry, to encourage domestic manufacturing for inputs to export industry, to encourage exports from the North Eastern Region and to provide incentives for manufacturing of green goods recognising the imperative of building capacities for envrionmental sustainability.

Home Ministry says, terrorism in the hinterland and communal situation remained by and large under control in 2011-12, except for the serial bomb blasts in Mumbai in July 2011 and bomb blast in Delhi High Court in September last year.

However, it says, Maoists violence, militancy in Jammu and Kashmir and insurgency in the Northeast continued to be the top areas of concern for the country's internal security with Left wing extremism claiming the most lives.

In its Annual Report, the Home Ministry said the North eastern region which has remained complex for quite some time because of diverse demands advocated by various militant outfits, has shown improvement in 2011.

It said the Government has adopted various counter terrorism strategies to neutralise the efforts and capabilities of militants to disturb peace in the country.
