The Supreme Court has dismissed the PIL challenging appointment of Lt. General Bikram Singh as the next Army Chief. The Court did not find any justifiable ground to entertain the petition.
The apex court also said that dismissal of the PIL shall not affect any pending proceedings against Lt. Gen. Singh. The Bench of Justices R.M. Lodha and H.L. Gokhale also observed that the Government had gone through all allegations against Lt. Gen. Singh before clearing his appointment.
Earlier, the Supreme Court had directed the centre to place before it the file pertaining to the appointment of Lt. Gen. Bikram Singh as the next Army Chief.

he Army Chief General Vikram Singh today reached Pune on a two-day and reviewed operational readiness of the Southern Army Command. General Singh interacted with senior functionaries of the Command and addressed the officers of the station on the contemporary challenges facing the Army and the collective efforts needed to overcome them. The Army Chief emphasized on value based leadership reiterating the Indian Army’s ethos of commitment and professionalism.
A Defence Ministry release said, for the first time, about 3000 officers in 24 stations of the Command were able to view the Army Chief’s address through a real time video link. General Singh assured the ex-servicemen of concerted efforts towards amelioration of their problems during this Year of Veterans.
General Singh will visit the National Defence Academy tomorrow and thereafter proceed to Bhopal to review operational preparedness of the Sudarshan Chakra Corps and address all Army Officers of Bhopal Military Station. The Army Chief will also call upon Madhya Pradesh Governor Mr Ram Naresh Yadav.

Delhi court on Thursday took cognisance of a criminal defamation case filed against Army Chief General V K Singh and four other top Army officials by Lt Gen (retd) Tejinder Singh, accusing them of misusing their official positions for defaming him.
Metropolitan Magistrate Sudesh Kumar heard the arguments advanced by Tejinder Singh and his counsel and posted the case for recording of pre-summoning evidence on April 10.
The court said, it will examine Tejinder Singh and other witnesses on oath in support of the complaint against the Army Chief and others.
Besides Gen V K Singh, Tejinder Singh has named Vice-Chief of Army Staff S K Singh, Lt Gen B S Thakur (DG MI), Major General S L Narshiman (Additional Director General of Public Information) and Lt Col Hitten Sawhney as accused in the case for allegedly misusing their official positions, power and authority to level false charges against him.
