On Monday, the rover relayed the first voice recording to be sent from another planet, and on today it will broadcast a song from an artist. But alongside these show pieces, Curiosity - also known as the Mars Science Laboratory - is already warming up its instruments for a science mission of unprecedented scope on the Red Planet.
Nasa said that the rover was already returning more data from Mars than all of the agency's earlier rovers combined. It will eventually trundle to the base of Mount Sharp, the 5 km-high peak at the centre of Gale Crater, in which the rover touched down just over three weeks ago.

But, NASA and photography experts insist they are nothing more than blemishes on the images, picked up by the camera lens sitting on the rover at a distance of 350 million miles away.
NASA has not commented on any of the strange sightings so far.
YouTube user StephenHannardADGUK, part of a group called Alien Disclosure UK, spotted the anomalies on the NASA images. He applied a series of filters to try to shed light on the mystery of the images which are publicly available on the space agency's website.
Whereas, video analyst Marc Dantonio, who has worked on projects for the US government, said that these are simply 'dead pixels' in the image - a regular problem in the world of graphics.
Curiosity, a six-wheeled vehicle the size of a compact car, landed inside a vast, ancient impact crater near Mars' equator on August 6 after an eight-month, 570-million-Km voyage through space.

US space agency NASA has successfully landed a huge new robot Rover on Mars. The one-tonne vehicle, known as Curiosity, touched down in a deep crater near the planet's equator after a plunging through the atmosphere.
It is going to look for evidence that Mars could once have supported life. A signal confirming the Rover was on the ground safely, was relayed to Earth via Nasa's Odyssey satellite, which is in orbit around the Red Planet.
The successful landing of the $2.5 billion Mars Rover was greeted with a roar of approval at mission control at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California. Engineers and scientists, who have worked on this project for the best part of 10 years, punched the air and hugged each other.
The mission team will now spend the next few hours assessing the health of the vehicle, also referred to as the Mars Science Laboratory, MSL. An attempt will also be made to retrieve some images of the landing location.
