A National Automotive Board, NAB, is proposed to be set up under the Department of Heavy Industry. 

It will be an autonomous society comprising of technical and domain experts to speed up the ongoing and new initiatives of the Government for the growth of the automotive sector. 

The Minister of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises, Mr. Praful Patel, gave this information in the Lok Sabha today. 

He said the main functions of the proposed National Automotive Board will be toes  regulate the functioning of the testing centras also to facilitate research and development in the automotive sector.

The government will seriously examine the issue of giving more operational flexibility to the Maharatna and Navaratna Central Public Sector Enterprises, CPSEs. Briefing media persons in New Delhi today after the meeting with CMDs of these CPSEs , Heavy Industry and Public Enterprises Minister Praful Patel said that at present there is no review mechanism and admitted that some operational flexibility has to be brought in place to make these CPSEs more competitive in the global environment.

The Minister said that various issues relating to the working of CPSEs will be looked at and needfull will be done to make suffocation free environment. Mr Patel said this was the first meeting on the issue and demands of CPSEs will be considered on the priority basis.

The President  today said state-owned companies must ensure transparency and efficiency in operations to maintain a positive impression about India.  Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs) in  Ms Patil said the importance of executing work on time and with efficiency, quality and transparency, must always be kept in mind so that a positive impression is created about India and that lasts long after the work is over. She said CPSEs, along-with the corporate sector, must work to increase India's global imprint and image.

Talking about the proposed 1 trillion US dollar investment in the infrastructure sector during the 12th Five-Year Plan (2012-17), the President said for a rapidly growing economy like India, both the public and private sectors must work together to meet the demand for large infrastructure investments.
 the Minister of Heavy Industries and Public Sector Enterprises, Mr. Praful Patel said the PSUs have brought socio-economic changes in the length and breadth of the country. The Minister urged all PSUs should work closely with each other.
