Egyptian officials say the militants have attacked a security building in Northern Sinai where Government is mounting a major campaign against Islamic extremists. Elsewhere, in Sinai, three policemen were wounded in fighting with militants near the border with Gaza.

This has been huge security operation in Northern Sinai for more than a month. But this is the latest evidence that the area is still quite lawless. According to a security official militants attacked a security headquarters from the roof of a nearby building. They launched crude missiles.

ran has tested its 4th generations Fateh 110 missiles. Iran’s Fars News Agency quoting the Iranian Defence Minister Ahmad Vahidi said the missiles were able to neutralise targets from 300 km. He said the previous generation missiles had great destructive power and great speed, while the fourth generation missiles are better, and have better precision in hitting targets both on water and on the ground.

India and Russia have agreed to accelerate their efforts to achieve the 20 billion US Dollars trade target by 2015. The bilateral trade between the countries stood at 9 billion U S Dollars in 2011. Addressing a joint press conference with the Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin, External Affairs Minister S M Krishna said the trade figures for the first quarter of this year are encouraging but more efforts are need to be done. He said, during the Inter Governmental Commission meet, the focus was on economic aspects of relationship between the two contries.

Mr Krishna said, besides discussion on strategic sectors, both the sides also reviewed progress on some initiatives undertaken after Annual Summit in 2011 at Moscow. These include the joint drive to harness the benefits of modernisation and industrial cooperation by pooling in the vast human and scientific resources of the two countries. The External Affairs Minister said the first meeting of Joint Working Group set up in this connection will take place shortly.

Mr Dmitry offered Russian expertise in the field of energy, particularly atomic energy. He said India is experiencing tremendous industrial growth and energy is required for it. He said Moscow can provide safe and secure Nuclear Power Station. Mr Dmitry said, both the countries is now venturing in to the joint production instead of bilateral trade.

The Russian Deputy Prime Minister said that both the sides can cooperate in the field of knowledge, air and space technologies. Both countries can produce combat air crafts, multitask interceptors and helicoptors. The Russian leader asserted for more business to business contacts. He also advocated for easy VISA regime to enhance trade between the two countries.

Meanwhile, the Russian Deputy Prime Minister was given a presentation about the missile's capabilities and recent achievements along with live demonstration of the mobile launcher. The two sides had formed the joint venture to produce the supersonic cruise missiles in 1998 and since then, all three wings of the Indian armed forces have ordered Brahmos.

The Russian Strategic Rocket Forces, RVSN, has successfully test-fired a Topol RS-12M Intercontinental Ballistic Missile, ICBM, local media reported today.

Spokesman for the RVSN, Colonel Vadim Koval told reporters that the missile, launched yesterday from Kapustin Yar launch site in the southern Russian region of Astrakhan, hit the target in Sary Shagan range in Kazakhstan with required accuracy.

The RS-12M Topol is a single-warhead ICBM that entered service in 1985. The Russian military announced last year the service life of the Topol missile could be extended to 2019.

The 45-ton three-stage missile has a maximum range of 10,000 km and can carry a nuclear warhead with a yield of 550 kilotons

India today successfully test fired indigenously developed surface-to-air ‘Akash’ missile of Air Force version from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Chandipur in Balasore district off Odisha coast.

This is the fifth successful trial of the anti-aircraft system in the last fortnight. Akash missile, with a strike range of 25 km and capable of carrying warhead of 60 kg, was test fired from a mobile launcher at launch complex-III of the ITR at 7.57 this morning.

The successful test-firing of surface-to-air Akash missile has added one more feather to the Indian missile mission. Defence forces conducted the trial test-firing of Akash with logistic support from ITR to re-validate the technology and operational efficacy of the missile.

During the trial, the sophisticated missile was aimed at intercepting floating object supported by a pilotless target aircraft at a definite altitude over the sea.

Akash, an anti-aircraft defence system, can simultaneously engage several targets with ‘Rajendra’ radar developed by the Electronics and Radar Development Establishment, a DRDO laboratory in Bangalore. ‘Rajendra’ does the surveillance, tracks the target, acquires it and guides the missile towards it.

The development of Akash missile took place during 1990s under the country’s Integrated Guided Missile Development Programme (IGMDP) and after many trials, it was inducted into the armed forces.

The Akash weapon system, which has its Army version too, was inducted into the armed forces in 2008.
The DRDO has developed both the Air Force and Army versions of the Akash missile. Rajendra is a ‘passive phased array radar’. 

It is a multifunction radar, capable of tracking as many as 64 targets and controlling up to 12 missiles simultaneously.

Defence experts have often compared Akash missile system with the American MIM-104 Patriot surface-to-air missile system. 

They say that Akash missile, like MIM-104, is capable of neutralising aerial targets such as unmanned aerial vehicles, fighter jets, cruise missiles and air-to-surface missiles.

ITR Director M V K V Prasad said two Air Force version Akash missiles were test-fired from the ITR in quick succession. He said both
the trials were successful and met all the mission objectives.

Pakistan today successfully carried out a test of its quick reaction tactical nuclear- capable Hatf-IX missile with a range of 60 km.

The military described the test of the indigenously developed short range, surface-to-surface multi-tube missile
Hatf-IX or Nasr as successful.

It did not say where the test was conducted. The first
test of the Hatf-IX was conducted in April last year

The missile was aimed at intercepting a floating object during the trial and supported by a pilotless target aircraft, flown from launch complex-II, at a definite altitude over the sea. Russia says, talks on the U.S. plan for a NATO missile defense system in Europe are deadlocked. Defence Minister Anatoly Serdyukov today said that Russia, NATO and the U.S. have not been successful in finding a mutually acceptable solution.

He spoke at the start of talks in Moscow with Russian and U.S. officials on the missile defense plan. Moscow has rejected the U.S. position that the plan is to protect against potential threats from Iran.

Surface to surface cruise missile BRAHMOS was successfully test fired from the Interim Test Range, Chandipur from Balesore district of Odisha today. 

Built on Indo-Russian joint venture technology the missile was tested from the LC-3 of ITR. 

Carrying two hundred to three hundred kilograms of conventional and nuclear warheads, this three ton weight supersonic cruise missile can hit the enemy target up to Two Hundred Ninety Kilometer distance. 

Brahmos has been deployed to the Army and Navy Wing of Indian Armed Forces. It was last test fired on 4th of this month from Pokhran in Rajasthan
