In UP, heavy to moderate rain at various places has cause spate in the rivers. The normal life has been paralysed due to torrential rain in certain terai districts. One person died due to lightening strike in Azamgarh district on Tuesday.
AIR Gorakhpur correspondent quoting met office reports that highest 14 centimetre rainfall has occurred in Ankinghat during past 24 hours. Heavy rain lashed Bareilly, Lucknow, Pilibhit and Gorakhpur from Tuesday midnight to Wednesday morning. The met office has predicted heavy to moderate rainfall in several places in western and eastern regions during next forty eight hours.
Meanwhile, water level of river Sharda is rising in Pilibhit due to additional release of water from Banbasa Barrage. The level of Ghaghra and Ganga rivers is also on rise in Ballia district.

The Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh has asked the Centre, the Ganga basin States, civil society and industry to come together to clean the Ganga. He was chairing the meeting of National Ganga River Basin Authority in New Delhi on Tuesday. Expressing concern that the efforts in the past have not been very successful, he sought a renewed and sincere commitment in both thought and action to make a definite change in the situation. The Prime Minister asserted that all the stake holders must find the right balance between the need for environmental and ecological conservation of the Ganga and its basin on the one hand and the imperatives of growth and development on the other.
