All the seven women officers of the Indian Army Women’s Everest Expedition has been successful. They have reached the top of Mount Everest. The fifteen member team which returned to Kathmandu after about two months was felicitated at a function by the Indian Embassy . India’s Ambassador to Nepal Mr. Jayant Prasad said it was an honour to welcome the team back.

In another function , the successful Indo- Tibetan Border Force was also felicitated in Kathmandu. The team had climbed from the Chinese side on the 19 th of last month had skied down the slopes of Everest The achievement of the Indian Army to get all the team members on the summit this season despite the challenges of the weather was remarkable.

The first team of women officers made it to the summit on the 25 th at about 4 am , with Major Linyu becoming the first women from Nagaland to make it to the summit of Everest . Captain Deepika Rathore was another first from Rajasthan , while Captain Smitha from Karnataka.

On the 26th the other three women officers also made it to the summit . They did say it was crowded on the roof of the world as the window for climbing remained very brief and weather conditions bad with many teams abandoning their attempt. 

For the ITBP team six reached the top from the Chinese side on the 19th May from the north side. Then three team members skied down from the slope from about 7,500 metres to 6,500 metres, setting maybe a new world record.

The team also talked about the rough weather conditions and team members who had earlier climbed Everest said the conditions were extremely windy making it difficult. The Climbing and Skiing down Everest was part of the Golden jubilee celebrations of the Indo- Tibetan Border police.

In Nepal, several functions were held to mark the 5th International Sagarmatha day today. The day is observed to mark the first ascent of the world’s highest mountain Mount Everest or Sagarmatha as locally known. It was in May 29th 1953 that Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay Sherpa Tenzing reached the summit . 
Various programmes were held in various parts of Nepal to mark the fifth Sagarmatha day to mark the first ascent of the highest Mountain in the world in 1953. The day which is observed every year since 2010 ,aims to disseminate the message of Nepal across the world not only as a hub of mountaineering but also a centre of adventure activities .

Blood donations camp, rally , unveiling of a postage stamp maked the occasion . While 160 marathon runners from across the world also took part in the grueling Tenzing - Hillary marathon at the highest altitude in the world. The race started from the Everest Base Camp situated at an altitude of 5,363 metres and ended at Namche Bazar which is at an altitude of 3440metres covering a distance of 42 kilometre of rugged Himalayan terrain. With the first ascent of the World’s highest peak , the number of mountaineers ascending the Everest has increased with 240 successful summits and six deaths this year raising questions on overcrowding and safety issues.

An Indian Army team of ten climbers has climbed the highest peak Mount Everest today .The team included four female officers and six male soldiers who reached the summit of around 4am .
The four female officers are Captain Namrata Rathore, Major N. Linyu. Captain Deepika Rathore and Captain Smitha . Major R. S. Jamwal (deputy leader,) of the team. Subedar Rajender Jalal, Havaldar Sherab Palden, Havaldar Praveen Thapa, Havaldar Chader Bahadur Thapa and Sudhir Singh were amongst the other male members who successfully scaled the peak.

According to press release , a second team of Indian Army Women’s Everest Expedition consisting of three women officers and five men will make an attempt on the summit on tomorrow .
