inance Minister P Chidambaram today asked public sector banks and rating agencies to hand-hold small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to enable them tap the capital market for raising funds. He was speaking after launching the dedicated SME platform 'Emerge' of National Stock Exchange (NSE). Currently seven companies are listed on the SME platform of BSE and one company got listed on NSE platform today.

Stating that tapping the capital market is one of the ways for SMEs to grow, the Finance Minister said, there are entrepreneurs who are willing to come to the market. He said, the banks and other entities can help SMEs through underwritingजोखिम अंकन of the issues, providing merchant banking services and picking up equity.

The Minister said, it is not easy to bring SMEs into the market due to reasons such as regulations of Sebi and otherregulators scaring away small entrepreneurs. But he said, the opportunities for the micro, small and medium enterprises to raise capital and to grow are so large that we must get over these obstacles. About 3.11 crore SMEs contribute 45 per cent to industrial output and 8 per cent to the GDP.

 ational Small Industries Corporation, NSIC, has launched a specialised incubation programme for unemployed girls and Women to take up their own ventures. Speaking at the 12th Global Conference on Trade Liberalization and its impact on women Entrepreneurs, Chairman-cum-Managing Director of NSIC, Dr. H.P. Kumar stated that NSIC has set up incubation centres all over the country and invited young girls and aspiring women entrepreneurs to join the NSIC-Incubation program free of cost. अंडे सेना

AIR Correspondent reports, the NSIC Incubation Programme is an integrated support by way of providing hands on training on working projects. It provides necessary facilities for prospective entrepreneurs and start up companies to learn product manufacturing processes coupled with technology development and business development.

 ndia will launch a global hunt for patented technology to accelerate innovation and hand over patents to small industries to accelerate product development.

According to the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, 20 crore rupees will be allocated annually for acquiring the patented technology, develop ideas available with the micro, small and medium enterprises and help them step up production.

The department has identified six areas, including affordable healthcare, low cost diagnostics, solar energy, and water to acquire technologies, to help fill innovation gaps creating impediment in product development in small and medium businesses.

 nder the umbrella of Indo German bilateral development cooperation, the Small Industries Development Bank of India ,SIDBI and the German Government’s development Bank KfW, have signed an agreement for financial assistance of Rs. 375 crore to support the development and diffusion of innovative technologies by micro, small and medium enterprises , MSMEs operating in designated clean technology sectors. The agreements were signed between the Ministry of Finance and German Embaasy yesterday.

Under the Agreement, KfW will provide concessional loan and technical assistance to support financing of MSMEs for developing new energy efficiency, renewable energy, waste management, pollution control and other clean technologies.

The National Small Industries Corporation Limited (NSIC)---a public sector undertaking under the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises---is setting up incubation centers in 10 African countries, including Zambia, Zimbabwe, Egypt, Libya, Rwanda and Ethiopia. The projects to be set up include concrete block manufacturing plants, tomato ketchup and fruit juice making plants and paper corrugated box manufacturing plants.

Other projects include wire nail manufacturing, soya milk extraction, water treatment and honey processing plants, manufacturing of plastic shopping bags and gem stone cutting and polishing machines.

AIR correspondent reports the NSIC model of incubation is a unique one where budding entrepreneurs are trained for establishing small enterprises. The funding for the project would be done by the Ministry of External Affairs under the discussions held during the India-Africa forum summit held in 2008

The Income Tax department has detected more than 5,800 crore rupees of concealed income in the low-profile micro, small and medium enterprises sector during the fiscal 2010-11. According to the latest data compiled by I-T department, the department detected this after it carried out over 3,900 raids.

The sector accounts for about 45 per cent of the manufacturing output of the country.
