The West Bengal Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee has urged the bandh supporters and their rivals to maintain peace and harmony in the Terai-Dooars region of North Bengal. Addressing newsmen in Kolkata on Monday afternoon, Ms Banerjee requested both the warring groups to settle their differences through peaceful talks.
Ms Banerjee firmly said that the Government will work under the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration Agreement in the Terai-Dooars Region. The Chief Minister said that Government will not allow any meetings or rallies in the area since normalcy is restored. The Terai-Dooars Coordination Committee has called an indefinite strike from Monday which evoked mixed response in the area.
AIR Correspondent reports that stray incidents of violence were reported from different areas of Jalpaiguri District. Police opened tear gas shells at Banarhat in the District when bandh supporters clashed with local businessmen. In Odlabari, bandh supporters set on fire a truck besides damaging two other vehicles
