Typhoon Bopha ploughed across Mindanao Island on Tuesday, flattening whole towns in its path as hurricane-force winds brought torrential rain that triggered a deadly combination of floods and landslides.

Rescuers said they are looking for 380 missing persons while seeking help for more than 250,000 others who have taken shelter in schools, gyms and other buildings after losing everything.

Of the dead, 258 were found on the east coast of Mindanao while 191 were recovered in and around New Bataan and Monkayo, said the head of an army division involved in the search.

President Benigno Aquino has sent food and other supplies by ship to 150,000 people on Mindanao's east coast where three towns remain cut off by landslides and wrecked bridges.

Typhoon Sanba today struck South Korea with torrential rain and strong wind, leaving tens of thousands of homes without power and suspending ferry  एक स्थान से दूसरे स्थान पहुँचाना नाव से पार करना and flights. According to the Korean Meteorological Administration, Sanba, with gust हवा का झोंका blowing at 38 meters per second, was heading northwards at a speed of 22 kilometers per hour after poundingजोरदार धमाकों के साथ बमबारी the country's southwest coastal areas in the morning. 

The typhoon is forecast to venture out into the sea off the east coast of the Korean peninsula later today. About 500,000 households in the island of Jeju and southern coastal regions suffered blackouts, but power has been restored in most houses. The transports ministry said more than 200 flights, mostly domestic, and ferry services have been canceled since yesterday, adding that train services have also been disrupted. 

About 1,100 residents in areas deemed vulnerable have been evacuated to shelters, while another 12,000 residents in other areas have been advised to leave. Thousands of schools in southern regions remained closed today.

While the typhoon has already left the Philippines territory, about 50,000 families are still being sheltered in different evacuation centers. State of calamity was declared in different areas during the height of the typhoon

In Vietnam, at least five people were killed and three others reported missing following flash floods and landslides triggered by Typhoon Vicente in the northern mountainous provinces.

In Japan, about 2,000 people in the western Wakayama Prefecture have been advised to evacuate due to threats of landslide and flooding caused by an approaching typhoon. Typhoon Guchol was located around 100 kilometres southwest of Shionomisaki in Wakayama Prefecture, moving northeast at a speed of 65 km per hour. 

Japan's Meteorological Agency said the powerful typhoon, the season's fourth, is expected to land in Japan's western region of Kinki this evening and then move northeast across Honshu Island.
