In Jammu and Kashmir, the Minister of State for Home, Tourism and Urban Development Nasir Aslam Wani inaugurated the 2nd Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Cricket Tournament in Kargil.

Around 100 teams from all over Kargil District are participating in this tournament organized by District Police Kargil under its Civic Action Programme.

Cricketer Sachin Tendulkar today began the new innings as a member of Parliament.

Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman Mr. Hamid Ansari administered the oath to him as member of Rajya Sabha in his chamber. 39-year-old Tendulkar was nominated as a member of Upper House on April 26.

Talking to media person Sachin Tendulkar expressed happiness over his nomimation to Rajya Sabha by President Pratibha Devisingh Patil. He said it is a great hounor for him to be nominated as the Rajya Sabha member.

Tendulkar said he got this opportunity because of his cricket carreer but he wanted to help not only cricket but all other sports also. 

Tendulkar sought support from all Parliamentarians, the adminstrator, media and people of the country for his new inning.

Tendulkar said he wanted to be remembered for his contribution to not only to cricket but other sports also.

He was accompanied by his wife Anjali.

Two others - actor Rekha and industrialist Anu Aga - who were nominated to Rajya Sabha along with Tendulkar had taken oath last month when the House was in session.

Tendulkar was busy with the IPL season, which ended on May 27. He had created history by scoring 100 international centuries in March this year.

Mumbai is celebrating the birthday of one of its most revered cricket icons Sachin Tendulkar today. The Batting icon, more popularly known as Little Master Sachin Tendulkar completed 39 years and will be celebrating his birthday with a simple cake cutting function with his family and the Mumbai Indians team in Chandigarh today evening. 

Although Tendulkar’s fans across Mumbai will miss his presence in the city today, they are overwhelmed after the cricketing icon recently dismissed any speculation about his retirement anytime soon and hinted that he will play for India in the World Cup 2015. Last month the batting icon had scored his much awaited 100th international century while playing against Bangladesh in Mirpur.

The Star Group on Monday bagged the broadcast and digital rights of India's international cricket matches at home for a period of six years after bidding a whopping 3851 crore rupees.

The Rupert-Murdoch-owned company beat competition from Multi Screen Media (Sony) to bag rights for all international matches at home events like Ranji Trophy, Duleep


Trophy and the Irani Trophy starting from July 2012 till March 2018.

The company's six-year contract is valued at 3851 crore rupees and will cover 96 matches in all. Star and Multi Screen Media (Sony) were the only two companies to make the bids but a total of five had filed the tenders.

The BCCI is very happy with the deal. Now the media rights have been fully evaluated and fully priced with Star coming out with a such a deal, BCCI President N Srinivasan told reporters while making the announcement.

Star Group's India CEO Uday Shankar said that the company would provide good telecast of the matches.
