In Assam, at least three persons are died and several others injured when a severe thunderstorm that lasted for half-an-hour lashed many parts of Tinsukia district in upper Assam last night. The worst-affected areas included- Doomdooma, Dadori, Kakpothar and several other neighbouring villages. 

Heavy rain and thunderstorm uprooted trees and electric posts besides damaging hundreds of houses in several parts of the district. The district authorities have taken up restoration works in the affected areas.

In West Bengal, the Met department has issued warning of heat wave in Burdwan, Bankura, Purulia, West Midnapore and Birbhum districts in next 24 hours. According to reports reaching in Kolkata, two persons died of sun stroke in Burdwan district on Sunday. In Kolkata, the maximum temperature was recorded at 39 degree celsius which is five degrees above normal.

A 6.9-magnitude earthquake today struck off Mexico's Pacific coast, the second to hit the area in the last 24 hours. According to the US Geological Survey, the quake struck in the Gulf of California, 78 miles northeast of the town of Guerrero Negro in Baja California at a depth of 6.2 miles. However, no immediate damage was reported and no tsunami warning has been issued. An earlier quake with a magnitude of 6.5 struck in the mountains of the western state of Michoacan. That tremor, which took place eight hours earlier, caused buildings to sway as far away as Mexico City, some 200 miles away, and no casualty or damage was reported.
