The Task Force, constituted by the government to review the working of the national security, has presented its report to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in New Delhi. It was constituted in July last year. An official release said yesterday that the Task Force, headed by Naresh Chandra was mandated to review existing processes, procedures and practices in the national security system to suggest measures to strengthen the national security apparatus. Its members had extensive discussion with concerned Ministries and various departments as well as with several State Governments and others concerned.

Union Home sectary R.K. Singh today visited Chikandabagh in Poonch and held a meeting with officers and discussed measures for enhancing cross LoC trade and removing impediments in it.
Mr. Singh is on a two day visit of the state and yesterday in the evening he took stock of overall situation in the state with senior officers.
He also met state Chief Minister Omar Abudullah and governor N.N.Vohra and discussed over all security and developmental scenario obtaining in the state.

The Defence Minister has said that the government is determined to continue to do all that is necessary to ensure the country's security and defence. He said the government will do everything necessary to ensure that the defence Forces are provided, equipped and trained to be amongst the best fighting forces in the world.He said on the letter written by the Army Chief to the Prime Minister, Mr. Antony said India's defence preparedness has always been strong. The Defence Minister said the V K Singh has written a letter to the Prime Minister on 12th of March drawing his attention to certain issues relating to national defence and security. Mr. Antony said these issues are being examined in his ministry. He said by their nature, such issues cannot form the subject of public debates. He said publishing the contents of secret communications within the government cannot serve the national security.
Later, replying to the clarifications sought by the opposition, Mr. Antony said the government has been continuously making amends to the defence procurement procedures. It has also been regularly tightening any loose ends that may be there in the procurement procedure. He said for any contract, amounting even to hundred crore rupees, the vendor would have to get into the Integrity Pact. He further said if there is any violation of the Pact, the government can take action like blacklisting the companies and cancelling the contract. He assured that the government will not leave any room for anybody to compromise on the country's integrity and transparency.
The Defence Minister also assured to speed up the modernization of Armed Forces. He also assured the members that the government will take action after consulting the Prime Minister and other Cabinet colleagues on this issue.
