Ladakh created a new page in the history of world cinema with the curtain raising ceremony of Ladakh International Film Festival.

As many as 66 films on various subjects including documentary, art and feature films will be screened during the 3-day film festival to be chaired by renowned film maker Shyam Benegal and participated by reputed film personalities from national and international cinema fraternity. For the first time Ladkhi films are included in this mega event, which has tremendously encouraged the local film makers.

On this occasion Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah highlighted the State’s captivating natural beauty, unparalleled world class film locations, rich heritage and cultural diversity making special reference to unique serenity of Ladakh region. The Sindhu Sanskriti Kala Kendra, which is the main venue of LIFF also inaugurated by the CM.

For the first time a 3-day Ladakh International Film Festival began in Leh today. It was inaugurated by the Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.

Our correspondent reports that during the 3-day Ladakh Internation Film Festival, as many as 66 films of all categories from all over the world would be screened, which include films in foreign languages, Hindi and Ladakhi films.

For the first time Ladkhi films are included in this mega event, which has tremendously encouraged the local film makers. 

The Sindhu Sanskriti Kala Kendra, which is the main venue of LIFF also inaugurated by the CM Omar Abdullah. This Auditorium which is fully installed with latest world class equipments meeting international standard. 

Many Internationally renowned film personalities including Bollywood personalities like Shyam Benegal, Govind Nihalani, Vishal Bhardwaj and the leading actress of Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara Kalki also present on this great event.

The Minister of State for Defence MM Pallam Raju has urged the corporate sector to contribute the Government’s Disaster Management efforts. Addressing a seminar on Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief in New Delhi on Wednesday, Dr. Raju advocated setting up of a system where private sector efforts could be integrated with national efforts.
On the occasion, Dr. Raju said that regional co-operation is important in disaster management. He said that India has taken a leading role among South Asian countries for reducing disasters.

Lauding the role of the Armed forces in rescue and relief operations during disasters, he said, the forces are the most dedicated, professional and well equipped with manpower and material resources. He cited the Tsunami disaster, cloud burst in Leh, Bihar floods and the Sikkim earthquake as excellent examples of the Armed forces' capabilities to reach out to the remotest parts of the country for such operations
