Gujarat High Court today dismissed a PIL challenging the state government's decision to give further extension to Justice G.T. Nanavati Commission, inquiring the 2002 post-Godhra riots cases.

While dismissing the PIL, the division bench of Chief Justice Bhaskar Bhattacharya and Justice J.B. Pardiwala held that the state government was justified in granting extension to the Commission.

The government had granted 18th extension to the Commission in March earlier this year till December 31, 2012. While pronouncing the judgement today, the bench noted that the Commission received voluminous evidences and its task was mammoth.

Government has invited nominations for Kabir Puraskar Awards. The award is given for promotion of communal harmony in the country. State Governments have been requested to send nominations to Home Ministry in this regard.

The Puraskar is given for the conspicuous acts of physical and moral courage displayed under circumstances of danger to the life of the rescuer in saving the lives and properties of members of another community and caste during communal riots and caste conflicts. 

The last date for receipt of nominations by the state governments is 30th June and 16th July for Home Ministry.
