The Tourism Ministry has decided to provide clean and hygienic environment at 98 prominent tourist sites including Taj Mahal, Dal Lake, Red Fort and India Gate. Tourism Minister Subodh Kant Sahai said in New Delhi that currently about six million foreign tourists come to the country and their aim is to increase it to 12 million. Round-the-clock garbage clearance, maintenance of parking lots and toilets and proper sign ages at the tourist complex are some of the steps to be carried out under the Clean India campaign launched by the ministry. Mr. Sahai said, they are seeking the involvement of corporate, PSUs and NGOs in the campaign as the project will be carried out in the Public Private Partnership, PPP model. There are about 14 tourist sites in the national capital including India Gate, Connaught Place, Chandni Chowk, Lotus Temple, Jantar Mantar, Rajghat, Purana Qila and Safdarjung Tomb which have been selected to be covered under the project. Besides Konark, Charminar, Kovalam Beach, Mysore Palace, Golkonda Fort, Ajanta Caves and Mahabodhi Temple, Har ki Pauri, Hawa Mahal are among the 98 chosen destinations across the country .

he Global Investors Meet that began in Bangalore today is estimated to attract an investment of six lakh crore rupees. Speaking at the inaugural function in Banglore today, Union minister for Tourism Subodh Kanth Sahai invited corporates to invest in the tourism sector. He said India which has 5000 years old culture and heritage is the destination sought after by the tourists. 

He said infrastructure improvement in this sector will generate ample jobs for the rural youths in the country. The Chief Minister of Karnataka Sadanand Gowda said that Karnataka’a contribution to the country’s economy is more than six percent. 

He informed that the investors have enormous opportunities to invest in
the field of infrastructure, textiles, tourism, IT among others. Top business magnets were present at the inaugural.

Tourism Ministry has issued around four thousand Visas on Arrival, VoAs, during the period from January to March, this year. It is over 34 per cent higher than the last year during the same period when the government issued around three thousand VoAs. According to an official release, the number of VoAs issued to people belonging to ten countries include Japan, New Zealand, Indonesia, Singapore, Philippines Vietnam and Myanmar. Our Correspondent reports that the government has launched the Visa on Arrival scheme to attract more foreign tourists in the country.
