Assam government would set up a state Wildlife Crime Control Bureau to deal with poaching and smuggling of animal products.

Talking to newsmen in Guwahati today, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said that Assam government would publish a white paper on steps being taken to conserve wildlife and forest . Assam government has also mulling option to set up a Wildlife Defence Force to protect wildlife and parks in the lines of Village Defence Party who take care of village securities. Gogoi also said that involvement of insurgent groups have also been noticed in the poaching of rhinos. Atleast three rhinos were killed by poachers at Kaziranga National Park in last week. A four member team of Wildlife Crime Control Bureau is also in Kaziranga to find out ways to prevent poaching.
