Omar Ghalawanji, one of Syria’s Deputy Prime Ministers, has been appointed to lead a temporary caretaker Government. The move was announced by the Syrian Television after President Bashar Al Assad sacked the incumbent Prime Minister Riyad Hijab.
Reports from Amman suggest the sacked Prime Minister had defected(एक राजनैतिक पार्टी को त्याग कर दूसरी में शामिल होना) with his family to Jordan. Later in a statement read in his name by a spokesman on Al Jazeera Television, Riyad Hijab announced his defection from the Syrian regime. He said he was joining the rank of rebels for freedom and dignity revolution. The former Agriculture Minister was appointed as the new Prime Minister in June by President Bashar al-Assad after the parliamentary elections.
Earlier in the day, a bomb blast hit the Damascus headquarters of Syria's State Television. Syrian Information Minister Omran Al Zoabi, who was inside the building, told later that several persons were injured but no one was seriously hurt and there were no casualties. Syrian State television said the Government forces were flushing out the terrorists from the country. Rebels in Aleppo were pounded(घेरना) by shelling from tanks and firing by the helicopter gunships in their strongholds, as Syrian troops deployed reinforcements and surrounded the city for what the official media called, the decisive battle.
Snipers(छिप कर गोली दागने वाला) ran on rooftops targeting rebels, and shot at a rebel car filled with bombs, setting the vehicle on fire. Women and children fled the city, some crammed( भरा हुआ होना) in the back of pickup trucks(a light truck with an open body and low sides and a tailboard), while others walked on foot, heading to relatively safer rural areas. Rebel Free Syrian Army has claimed responsibility for kidnapping 48 Iranian pilgrims in Syria.
In an interview on Al-Arabiya television, the rebels alleged that some of them were on a reconnaissance mission. Tehran has asked Turkey and Qatar to help secure the release of the 48 kidnapped men which it said were pilgrims. Iran’s embassy in Damascus and Syria’s state SANA news agency said that the 48 Iranian pilgrims were abducted by armed terrorist groups while they were on a visit to a Shiite Sayyida Zeinab shrine on the outskirts of Damascus.
