 n Maharashtra, registration of 17 abortion centres in Thane has been cancelled with spate of female foeticide cases coming to light. The Health Department cancelled the licences for non-adherence to regulations. The action is being taken under the provisions of the PCPNDT Act of 1994.

District Health Department said today that a detailed report has been sent to the state government on action taken against these abortion centres.
During the last one year, 553 abortion centres were inspected. Of them, 105 were found to be flouting rules and show cause notices had been sent to them. 

The report said, a total of 174 sonography centres were also inspected during the period. 13 of them were found with irregularities and these had been sealed.
