The Army today began the two-day celebrations of the 13th anniversary of its victory in the 1999 Kargil war in Drass in Jammu and Kashmir.
Lt General KT Parnaik, GoC Northern Command and Flag Foundation of India chairman and member of Parliament Naveen Jindal hoisted the tri-colour.
Speaking on the occasion, Gen Parnaik remembered the valiant job done by the Indian Army during the epic battle. Jindal said all Indian should get inspiration from the tri-colour.
Over 150 kms from Srinagar, Indian and Pakistan forces battled each other in rough terrain and extreme conditions in 1999.
Relatives of slain army officers and soldiers attended the function. AIR Leh correspondent reports that the two-day commemoration will also include a wreath laying ceremony at the war memorial, a polo match, a soldiers' meet, a memorial service, a band display and 'Beating the Retreat'.
