The UN Special envoy on Syria, Kofi Annan is working on a Contact Group to bring back the UN peace plan in Syria on track. Annan’ spokesman Ahmed Fawzi said that urgent and intensive consultations are on efforts are on with member states to evolve a consensus on the shape and formula of the Contact Group meeting.

Diplomatic sources told that the meeting may be held on 30 th June in Geneva; however the sticking point has been the inclusion of Iran in the group. US ,Britain and other European nations are against bringing Iran on board while Russia and China favour Teheran as a member of the group.The proposal to arrange such meeting has gathered momentum with the escalation of violence in Syria.

Meanwhile, the Syrian opposition groups are meeting in Istanbul over the next two days to iron out their differences. These include Syrian national Council, Kurdish National Council and the tribal group led by Nawaf Al Bashir . The newly elected SNC Leader Abdel Basset Sayda has said that his priority is to bring all the opposition groups together to resolve the crisis in Syria.
