UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has warned that the UN observers monitoring the cease-fire in Syria were not there to watch the killing of innocent people.

He has called upon the Syrian government to halt the violence in the country immediately.

The UN Human Rights Council is holding a special session today on the deteriorating situation in Syria.

Meanwhile, Syrian government said that a preliminary investigation report by a military judicial probe committee has found that the Houla massacre last week was carried out by anti-government armed groups.

Our West Asia Correspondent reports that the warning by the UN Secretary General came amidst reports that Syrian troops again shelled the region of Houla where 108 people were massacred last week.

At the summit of the Alliance of Civilizations in Istanbul on Thursday, Ban Ki Moon made it clear that the UN observer team is in Syria to record violations and to speak out so that those who committed the heinous crime are held accountable.

Nearly 300 U.N. observers are in Syria to monitor a cease fire that came into effect on April 12.

Amidst a global outrage over the brutal killings, the UN Human Rights council has convened its special session in Geneva today.

The Council Spokesman Rolando Gomez said 21 out of 47 member nations of the UN Human Rights Council gave the notice to discuss urgently the situation in Syria.
