In Nepal, Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai has pledged to establish a fund to fight against the impact of Climate change in the mountainous countries. Inaugurating a program in Kathmandu today on the occasion of the World Environment Day , he renewed his commitment to make a common forum for implementation of the declaration named 'Kathmandu Call for Action'.
Earlier in the month of April ,a two-day International Conference of Mountain Countries on Climate Change issued a 10-point charter for preserving and protecting ecology and environment in the mountainous countries. Mr Bhattarai said Nepal would strongly pitch for sustainable development, economic prosperity and environment conservation and balance in the Rio+20 United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development to be held Rio de Janeiro of Brazil from 20-22 June.
A number of programmes were held to mark the occasion with a cycle rally by students , cleaning of the Bagmati river in the capital, awareness programs , setting up of herbal garden by various organizations working in the field of environment .
