An incident of oil spill occurred at Mumbai’s Malet Bunder premises on Sunday afternoon. The spill was caused due to the sinking of inland vessel 'Al Husaini' which has been lying under police custody since April 2012. A Coast Guard team led by Commandant PK Jha immediately swung into action and launched the Pollution Response Operations.

About 100 metres of oil containment boom was prepared to contain spillage of thick furnace oil. A press release issued from Mumbai today informs that the Coast Guard has recovered approximately 6 to 7 tons of oily water mixture using oil mops and skimmers. It further informs that the Coast Guard operation has successfully prevented any spill to cross from wharf premises into Arabian Sea and averted a major environmental disaster at ferry wharf.

The Coast Guard Team is continuously monitoring the situation and efforts are on to completely absolve the area from oil pollution.
