Assam Government has sought assistance of the Bangladeshi authorities in search operation of victims of Monday’s Dhubri ferryboat tragedy in Brahmaputra River. The Deputy Commissioner of Dhubri district Kumud Chandra Kalita held flag meeting with the District Magistrate and the Commander of the Bangladesh Rifles at Kurigram border point this morning and discussed the strategy to recover the floating bodies in the Brahmaputra River.Officials said the neighbouring country assured to offer all help in searching the floating bodies and their hand over to the Indian authorities.
Meanwhile, the divers of the National Disaster Response Force, Army, BSF and Police recovered five more bodies from the site where the ferryboat with around 350 passengers capsized. The total number of bodies recovered has gone up to 57. According to officials, 230 victims of the ill-fated ferryboat are still missing. Of them, 130 feared to be died.
