UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has called on Myanmar's President and the opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi to work as partners on a path to change.

Ki-moon, in a historic address to Parliament, said the path was too narrow to turn back and praised both leaders for their courage and vision. He said Myanmar had to change in order to tackle social and economic challenges. The UN chief is on a three-day visit to Myanmar. Ki-moon has met President Thein Sein and will later hold talks with Ms Aung San Suu Kyi.

She earlier announced a row over an oath of office for MPs was resolved. Ms Suu Kyi said, she will now swear an oath as a newly elected member of Parliament. She and fellow MPs from her party will take up their seats in Parliament on Wednesday.

Ki-moon last visited Burma in 2009, but was then denied access to Suu Kyi. The current UN chief's visit to Myanmar is the latest in a series of high-level visits by foreign leaders and diplomats in the past year, following a series of reforms aimed at encouraging Western nations to lift sanctions.
