| Restructuring of army essential, says Nepalese Army Chief |

Nepal’s Chief of Army, General Chhatraman Singh Gurung has said that restructuring of the army has become necessary as it’s current structure is out-dated. Appearing before the Parliament’s State Affairs Committee in Kathmandu on Sunday, the Army Chief said the institutional structure of the Nepal army has not been reviewed since 1965 and hence is out dated.
He said that the strength of the army which stood at 18000 in four decades back has now swelled to 90000 and proposed for increasing existing two posts of Lieutenant general to four and current eighteen posts of major- generals to twenty-four.
Defense Minister Bijaya Kumar Gachchhadar informed the Committee that discussions are going on revamping the organizational structure of the National army to make it inclusive and democratic. |
