A Palestinian fisherman has been arrested by Israeli naval forces off the southern coast of the Gaza Strip. A representative of the fishermen syndicate said the fisherman was working near the Gaza-Egypt maritime marks, when several Israeli gunboats attacked the fishing boat. He said the Israeli fire caused the fishing boat to sink stressing that the Palestinian fisherman was working within the fishing area of 3 nautical miles offshore allocated by Israel for Gaza fishermen. The fishing area for Gaza fishermen was reduced after the Islamic Hamas movement took over the coastal enclave by force in 2007.
