In Nepal, the Dispute resolution Sub-Committee of the Constitutional Committee has sought five more days to resolve issues of the Constitution drafting. CPN- UML, leader Madhav Kumar Nepal said the parties are close to agreement and will be able to resolve the disputed issues. Meanwhile, UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal has expressed confidence that the political pastries will be able to forge consensus within a few days saying that an environment of trust has developed among them. He was speaking to Constituent Assembly members who staged a dharna at the premises of the Committee hall meeting in Kathmandu on Tuesday as their campaign for exerting pressure for completing the peace process and constitution drafting in time. About a hundred youth members of the Constituent Assembly staged the sit-in while the Dispute resolution Committee held their meeting.
The marathon two day meeting of the main political parties on the outskirts of Kathmandu which concluded on Monday has failed to forge consensus, but leaders had said that difference have narrowed down on federalism, judicial system, electoral system, citizenship.
AIR Correspondent reports, Leaders of the main political parties have expressed confidence that they will be able to forge consensus on the disputed issues seen in the constitution drafting which the was supposed to be resolved by Tuesday and if not voting was to be carried out in the Constituent Assembly. However following the marathon meeting the main political parties are hoping to resolve the disputed issues within a couple of days. Maoist Chairman , Pushpa Kamal Dahal said while a major part of the peace process has been concluded with the process of the integration of the former Maoist combatants, they are seriously working to conclude the task of drafting the constitution. Though some other issues that are connected to the peace process such as formation of the Commission on Truth and Reconciliation, the Commission on Disappearances are still remained to be settled.
