Parliament today gave its seal of approval to the Anand Marriage (Amendment) Bill, 2012 with the Lok Sabha adopting it. The Rajya Sabha passed it earlier. The bill provides for the separate registration of Sikh marriages. This meets the years old demand of the community that so far gets its marriages registered under the Hindu Marriage Act 1955.

Replying to the debate on the Bill, Law minister Salman Khurshid termed it as a progressive step. He said it again shows that sentiments of all communities are respected in the country.
